Time has taken its toll and reduced the number of members to 12, a dedicated group of fine voices. We continue to hope that a few more will include the work of the choir in their worship ministry. We now hold practice at 5 PM on Tuesday.
Although Ruth Curtis still commands the organ each Sunday and Marv Curtis still serves as music director, the task of actively preparing the choir through practice and directing the choir during the service has been transferred to Joan Hurst. Marv served as choir director at St Michael's for the past 20 years and in various churches for a total of 45 years. Barbara Palmer serves at the organ when needed and at times when Ruth is away. For 40 years she served as organist in six churches in Michigan. Lois Stryker provides the prelude music. The singing is enriched by Marybeth Goree playing the trumpet.
This year we added Joan Hurst to Marv & Ruth's ministry of preparing the music by computer to accompany the choir on our automated piano. It takes about six to eight hours for two people to thus prepare each anthem.
